The Kona Coffee Council is an organization of Hawaii coffee farmers who grow, process, and sell Kona coffee. The Kona Coffee Council also offers a Seal of Approval on each bag of coffee their member’s sell. Their website allows you to search for farms with particular features, such as what they sell (e.g., bulk green beans) and if they offer farm tours.
The Seal of Approval assures that the coffee is 100% Kona Coffee. Farmers using the Seal are required to keep a green audit trail to assure excellence and adherence to high standards.
The Seal of Approval requirements include the following: the coffee must be grown within the north and south Kona districts; must meet the State of Hawaii’s green Grading Standards (adopted under Chapter 147 of Hawaii’s Revised Statutes; and the producer must fill out green miller’s audit trail between the producer and the buyer.
The Kona Coffee Council also sponsors the annual Cream of the Crop coffee cupping competition.
