Harens Old Tree Estate is located in Honaunau at about 1,400 feet above sea level in Kona Coffee Country on the Big Island of Hawaii.
Coffee farm owner Duane Harens was formerly the head sommelier of the Ritz Carlton Mauna Lani and Kahala Hilton. As a sommelier Duane tasted more than one million different wines and now he works to produce top quality gourmet coffee.
Duane tends the coffee trees and also roasts, bags and markets his Kona coffee. He also brews a high quality beer that has earned awards in the Kona Brewfest competition.

Harens Old Tree Estate has very old coffee trees that Duane believes impart a deeper character to the brewed coffee. Duane likes to emphasize “tasting the terroir, intricacy and purity of the beans, rather than the roastedness.”
Harens Old Tree Estate doesn’t separate out the peaberry coffee beans and the highest quality coffee beans from the others but instead leaves them mixed in with the coffee and also adds to each batch a ten or twenty percent addition from the previous harvest which he believes adds more dimension and creates a nuanced, complex coffee.
Harens Old Tree Estate sells green (unroasted) whole bean Kona coffee as well as Kona coffee parchment and roasted premium Kona coffee beans. Harens is a member of the Kona Coffee Farmers Association.
