Green Gecko Kona Coffee Farm Cultivates Heirloom Kona Coffee Trees on Sustainable Farm

Green Gecko Farm is located in Kealakekua in Kona Coffee Country on the Big Island of Hawaii, the southernmost of the Hawaiian Islands. Set up on the western hills of Mauna Loa Volcano at an elevation of about 1,300 feet, Green Gecko Farm cultivates heirloom Kona Typica coffee trees which they grow in the shade of the farm’s many fruit trees.

Hulls from the organic macadamia nuts are used to fertilize the coffee trees along with chicken guano. Pest control is accomplished with organic neem. The owners believe in sustainable agriculture as well as conservation farming and they have been recognized for this as well as the quality of their coffee.

All of Green Gecko Farm’s gourmet Kona coffee beans are hand-picked and then sun-dried. Among Green Gecko Coffee’s honors are Gold Award Medals at the Kona Coffee Council Cream of the Crop competition for People’s Choice and also for Chef’s Choice.

Adding to Green Gecko’s reputation is the fact that some high-end Hawaii restaurants serve it, including Alan Wong’s, Hualalai Grille at the Four Seasons in Kona, and the Merriman’s Market Cafe in Waikoloa.

Farm tours are offered by Green Gecko Farm by appointment, and they also accommodate group tours as well as celebrations including weddings.

Green Gecko Farm sells green (unroasted) Kona coffee beans and also roasted whole bean gourmet Kona coffee.  Green Gecko Farm is also a member of the Kona Coffee Farmers Association.
