Dragon’s Lair Kona Coffee Farm is set on five acres in the South Kona region of the Big Island of Hawaii. The coffee farm is located on the slopes of Mauna Loa Volcano in Honaunau about 20 miles south of Kailua-Kona above Puuhonua O Honaunau National Historic Park.
Dragon’s Lair Farm is about 1,100 feet above sea level and cultivates 2,000 Kona Typica coffee trees that grow on three acres. Also growing on the farm are macadamia nut trees as well as a variety of fruit trees including avocados, banana, and other fruits.
Dragon’s Lair Estate takes great pride in their coffee and fruit orchard which they hand prune and hand weed. All fertilization is done with natural mulch from the trees along with supplements of commercial organic fertilizers. No pesticides or herbicides are used on the coffee trees.

Dragon’s Lair Farm has been designated as a 100% Kona Coffee Estate coffee as part of the Kona Coffee Council’s Estate Program, certifying that the coffee has been grown, processed, and also roasted on a single Kona farm. Dragon’s Lair coffee has the Seal of Approval of the Kona Coffee Council.
Dragon’s Lair Kona Coffee Farm has views of the Kona coast and also features a 512-foot hoshidana, which is a sun-drying deck with a roof that can close during rains. The coffee cherry (fruit) is hand-picked and processed on the very same day. After harvest the coffee cherry is wet milled and then fermented overnight. After fermentation the coffee beans are washed and the spread out to dry.
After the coffee beans are dried they are milled to remove the parchment and then sorted to remove any imperfect coffee beans. Finally the coffee beans are roasted to order before being shipped to the consumer.
Dragon’s Lair Farm mills all of their own coffee and all roasting is done in very small batches to ensure freshness. Dragon’s Lair also offers custom roasting to order. Dragon’s Lair coffee is not sold in stores. Farm tours are offered by appointment only.
