Family Owned and Operated Kona Coffee Farm Takes Many Steps To Preserve Kona Coffee’s Delicate Flavors
This family owned and operated Athena Kona Coffee Farm includes century-old coffee trees. All of the coffee at Athena Kona Coffee Farm is hand picked ensuring that only the ripest, reddest berries are chosen and the rest are left to ripen. On average the coffee trees, some of them one hundred years old, yield about thirteen pounds of coffee cherry which turns into about two pounds of roasted Kona coffee.
The Kona coffee is processed on the farm, first soaked in fresh rainwater overnight so they may ferment in what is known as wet method processing. The coffee beans are then washed and sun dried to preserve the delicate and mellow flavors. Athena also waits to hull the parchment on the beans until just before the beans are roasted in order to produce a tastier coffee.

Athena roasts their Kona coffee to a American (or light roast), Vienna (or medium roast), and French (or dark roast). The coffee is packaged in one-way-valve sealed bags for optimal preservation of flavors. No pesticides or fungicides are used on Athena Kona Coffee Farm, nor is the coffee fumigated or genetically manipulated (no GMOs).
Athena offers their premium Kona coffees in uniquely handcrafted gift boxes that are made in Kona. Another option is a Polynesian kapa pouch that is made from the plants Hawaiians used in ancient times to create cloth. These locally-produced crafts add a charming touch that reflects important Hawaiian cultural traditions.
Athena’s website also includes a list of celebrities (along with their photos) who drink Athena coffee, and these personalities include such big names as William Shatner, Carmen Electra, and James Gandolfini
